Grading and Promotions

Earning your stripes or belt promotion can be one of the most confusing and intimidating things about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Here at LCCT San Pablo we try our best to do away with all the mystery and magic surrounding these promotions. As an affiliate of the Luiz Claudio Combat Team (LCCT) we follow rigorous testing and promotion requirements for all of our members, the instructors included.

The Path to Blue Belt

An adult's first promotion is to the blue belt, and while it may be simple it is certainly not easy. In order to achieve a blue belt each student is expected to master approximately 50 techniques varying in position and nature. The primary focus on these techniques will be self-defense. Included in these are striking defenses and basic takedowns so that you will be able to use your martial art in any real self defense situation. After earning your fourth stripe and once your instructor deems you ready you will be invited to test for your blue belt. This test will be conducted by several of the LCCT black belts and can be expected to take 1-3 hours. During this test you will be expected to perform the techniques that created a foundation for your Jiu-Jitsu  strengths.

As with every Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy we follow the traditional belt rankings for both children and adults.
